Our Technology-Lost Wax Method
Our Famous Wilbur and Orville Wright Bronze Statue were cast using the traditional lost wax method, in which the product to be cast (the wax shape) is first carved with a waxy material mixed with beeswax, rosin, and butter, then clay clarifying clay is poured over the wax shape, and then sprinkled with quartz sand, crushed plant fibers, sawdust, etc. When it is dry, pour in the clay and yellow clay and stir in the clarified clay, then sprinkle with sand. After doing this several times outside the wax mold, heat the shells over the fire. The wax melts into a liquid when heated and disappears from the shell. Afterwards, the die shell is sintered and the molten metal liquid is poured into the die shell for casting. Once cooled, knock off the mold shell to get a cast that is the same shape as the wax mold.
